| The Flame Alchemist |
Appearance: Roy is only 5’8” but has a lean, muscular build mostly due to his 7 years in military training. He has short, straight, black hair, dark eyes and fairer skin. He seems very formal in appearance considering he spends most of his time in his military uniform. Said uniform is a dark, deep blue with silver trim, consists of a short cut long sleeved jacket, pants and boots. He has a young-looking, rounder face than men his age, which is often accompanied with a smirk instead of a real smile.
Personality: Roy at first glance seems to be aloof, somewhat disinterested, and manipulative. He is very intelligent, isn't afraid to speak his mind, and likes to be in control of any situation. Looking deeper we see that these traits are just an outward shell he puts up to keep unwanted acquaintances at a comfortable distance. Roy in reality is loyal, dedicated, and passionate. He has a calm demeanor and isn't usually quick to anger. While he outwardly shows himself as a smug bastard, he actually has self-loathing/guilt ridden issues because of his experiences during the Amestris' military conflict with Isbal. His new found ideals of rising to the top of the military and government are driven by compassion and his desire to make his world a better, peaceful place.
He isn't all work and no play however; he has somewhat of a reputation as a ladies man (weather this is true or just a front he puts up remains to be seen), and has made his love of dogs quite obvious. His manipulativeness is often expressed very playfully as well.
Abilities/Strengths: Roy has been shown to be an accomplished strategist in addition to being an excellent alchemist and is often one step ahead of his enemies. His particular use of alchemy involves using a pair of gloves made of a special kind of cloth called "ignition cloth" to create a spark when he snaps his fingers, then using alchemy to manipulate the natural oxygen in the air to cause the spark to become fire. Roy can then also effectively control the direction and intensity of the flames.
Noteable Possessions: A pair of white, cotton looking gloves that are a made of a material known as ignition cloth. Each one has a red transmutation circle on the back so that Roy can use flame without having to take the time to draw a the array. A silver pocketwatch with the Amestris State Military's crest on the front.
Weaknesses: Roy has a lot of issues regarding his role in the war with Isbal that plague his thoughts. He considers himself to be a stained man-a killer, and strives to make things right, even though he knows he can't in many aspects. This causes him to think very little of himself, even leading him to consider suicide at one point in his life. He also carries heavy guilt over the death of his best friend Maes Hughes, who was killed trying to get vital information to Roy he thought would "push him straight to the top." In regards to combat he's been called "useless" when it's raining, when his gloves are wet, or when he can't draw a transmutation circle. However he has seen action, and is capable of defending himself if needed. |
| History |
History: Roy spent a good portion of his young life under the tutelage of an alchemist, who happened to be the father of Riza Hawkeye, one of Roy's later trusted friends and subordinate. He doesn't like to talk or reminisce about his childhood, not necessarily because it was unhappy but simply uneventful up until his discovery of alchemy, which became one of the greatest passions and obsessions of his life. He was a quick student, able to grasp even the more difficult concepts in little time. Despite protests from his teacher, Roy joined the Amestris State Military as an Alchemist at around the age of 19 with the naive intention to help the common people with his talents, believing in the motto "Alchemist, be thou for the people." After passing the exam he was given the title "Flame Alchemist" due to his advanced knowledge and skill in fire based alchemy.
However shortly after being instated he was sent to Ishbal, like other State Alchemists, and became what civilians called a "dog of the military" blindly following orders, even ones that involved killing people without question of right or wrong. After his involvement with the war he was stationed at East City HQ where he was promoted and put in charge of a wide range of activities, from criminal investigations to routine inspections. He devoted his time and abilities to becoming the Fuhrer (The military and political leader of Amestris) in hopes that once he is in charge he can bring a stop to all the senseless wars and killing and change the country for the better (and require all female personnel to wear miniskirts, but this claim is mostly a distraction to make people think Roy is a womanizer, only obsessed with power in order to impress women). It is this goal and ideal that is his driving force, everything he's done or plans to do is something that he believes will help rush him up the ranks. This has given him the reputation of being cold, manipulative, and only concerned with sucking up to the higher ups for a promotion. Only his very few close subordinates know of his true intentions.
He spends the majority of his life after the war at the rank of Colonel with various loyal underlings/friends that want to help push him to the top. Shortly before being brought to Econtra he was promoted to Brigadier General, however the promotion was only given in order to send him to the front lines in hopes he would be killed in battle. He isn't particularly proud of it considering he didn't earn the possition and has chosen to keep it a secret.
He is responsible for "discovering" the Elric brothers, convincing Edward Elric to join the military, and closely follows the progress of the brothers' quest to restore their bodies to their original form.
After learning that the current Fuhrer was a homonculous Roy secretly headed to Bradly house, with the intentions to confront the man about how he had manipulated the state. He was brought to Econtra just as he arrived at Bradly's residence. |
